日本全国共同浴場ランキング。東日本第三位置が野沢温泉である。とても素晴らしい温泉場なので、紹介する。野沢温泉には日本スキー博物館がある。日本スキー発祥の地である新潟県越前高田の初期スキー講習会を受講した受講者が数十名いた。講師はオーストリア人のレリヒ少佐であった。その中に野沢温泉の者がいた。欧州でのスキーの歴史も知ることができる。冬季五輪大会の全ての関連展示がされている。野沢温泉出身者で金メダルを獲得した選手もいる。

高野辰之記念館「おぼろ月夜の館。斑山文庫』。中規模のホールの中に絵画展示室や音楽コンサート会場や軽食部門などがある。高野辰之は国語学者上田万年に学んだ文学博士である。大学で国語学を教える傍ら、文部省の唱歌を多く作詞した。現在でも学校で高野辰之が作詞をした歌が歌われている。「春の小川」「ふるさと」「もみじ」「おぼろづきよ」などである。高野辰之は現在の中野市の出身であり、出身地にも高野辰之記念館がある。50代の半ばより野沢温泉に家を持ち、温泉を自宅に引き、野沢温泉で生涯を閉じた。「おぼろ月夜の館」には高野辰之の東京自宅の仕事部屋が再現されている。

　日本の近代化が始まった明治時代に音楽教育においても西洋音楽重視の傾向があった。日本古来の「七五調」（七音と五音を俳句のように積み重ねる音調）に基づく学校音楽教育で歌う唱歌を多く作った。高野辰之の遺志により墓地も野沢温泉にある。

　野沢温泉村の名誉村民第一号が芸術家である岡本太郎画伯である。フランス在留時よりピカソなどとの交流があるシュールレアリスムの流れを汲む芸術家である。1970年大阪万博の象徴「太陽の塔」も岡本太郎の設計である。岡本太郎は野沢温泉の為に「湯」という感じをデザインした。まるで地球のマグマが乗り移ったような地下強い燃えるような字である。野沢温泉の記念品の中に岡本太郎の「湯」の文字のデザインを取り入れたものが多くある。

　野沢温泉には家族経営の温泉民宿が多数ある。最盛期には300を超える民宿があった。現在でも多数の民宿がある。中規模旅館とホテル、高級旅館とホテルまで宿泊施設が充実している。共同浴場は13箇所ある。「野沢組」という地元有志によって管理運営されている。新型ウイルスcovid19の感染の中でも一般無料開放を維持してきた。温泉法第一条に「公共の福祉の増進」と温泉利用目的が明記されているが、その理念を最も守っている温泉場であると私は評価している。世界から来訪する観光客の皆様には、宿泊施設に泊まり食事や温泉を堪能してもらいながら、共同浴場で土地の人達と交流をしてもらいたい。「私は日本語が話せないから交流は難しい」って？言葉は要りません。あなたたちが高野辰之博士の歌の少しでも歌えば、あなたたちの来訪を、地元民は頷いたり、拍手をして歓迎するでしょう。
